Make healthy dog biscuits
All natural doggy treats free from artificial flavouring, preservatives and additives
Posted: March 2010
Love your pet, why not throw ‘em a bone? If you truly want to be sure that the treats you give your dog are 100% healthy, and do not contain tons of fillers, you will need to make your own. Many of the store bought biscuits contain artificial flavouring, preservatives and additives that are high in calories and can cause allergic reactions such as skin irritation and hair loss. Here is an all natural simple doggy treat recipe without sugar, preservatives or additives for your special canine pal.

Ingredients
  • 2 teaspoons dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 1/2 to 3 cups whole-wheat flour

Supplies
  • Large bowl
  • Wooden spoon
  • Measuring spoons
  • Measuring cups
  • Rolling pin
  • Cookie cutter shaped like a dog bone, sold at most pet stores
  • Cookie sheet

Method

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (170 degrees C). With the dry yeast in a big bowl, slowly add the warm water and wait for the yeast to dissolve and the mixture to become foamy. Then add the parsley, chicken broth, honey, and one egg to the yeast and mix well. Next, add the whole-wheat flour to the mixture; just enough to make the mixture stiff (about 1/4 cup at a time). Knead the mixture on a floured surface until it forms a smooth ball then roll the mixture out until the thickness is about 1/4 inch. Use a fun-shaped cookie cutter on the sheet of dough to punch out shapes. Once you have the cut outs, place them on an un-greased cookie sheet and bake for approximately 20 - 30 minutes. Let the treats cool over night then offer to your very thankful pooch!

Remember that if you do give your dog store bought treats once in a while, supplement their diet with a digestive aid, such as Digestive Support, that can help to promote easy digestion and a calmed stomach using natural herbal ingredients. If you suspect your pet may be suffering with a food allergy, eliminate certain foods one by one, and see if he/she improves. Allergy Itch Ease has been formulated to address all skin reactions, especially those brought about by an underlying allergy and accompanied by intense itching and scratching.
