How do I know if my pet has an eye infection?
Common signs and symptoms of eye infection in pets include:
  • Squinting of the eyes
  • Watery or mucoid discharge
  • Red or swollen conjunctiva (the pink part just inside the eyelids)
  • The iris (colored part of the eye) may also appear dull or cloudy
  • Pawing at the eye
  • Third eyelid (nictitating membrane) visible

What causes eye infections in pets?
Infections of the eye and surrounding structures are common in pets and usually involve the conjunctiva, leading to conjunctivitis or “pink eye.” Causes of infections include various bacteria, viruses like the Herpes virus, foreign material or irritants in the eye as well as injury to the cornea and lens of the eye. Eye infections may become chronic and if not treated correctly may result in loss of sight or even the removal of the eye. Conjunctivitis is usually easily resolved but injuries or infections of the cornea of the eye need to be treated intensively and specialist opthalmological advice may be needed.

Conventional treatment usually involves aspirin, corticosteroids, or other anti-inflammatory drugs for pain relief - as well as eye drops or ointments and topical or oral antibiotics. Your pet will often need to wear an Elizabethan/buster collar to prevent them scratching at the affected eye. This may well affect their ‘street cred’ but is essential for rapid and complete healing of eye injuries and infections. Their egos will recover!

The Natural Way
As eye infections are so often treated with antibiotic eye drops and systemic antibiotics and anti-inflammatories, recurrent eye infections are a growing problem and usually occur with decreased immune functioning - a frequent side-effect of antibiotic drugs.

Natural remedies can treat and prevent infections of the eye without any of the side-effects and adverse effects on immune functioning that antibiotics have.

What is PetAlive Eye-Heal?

How has PetAlive Eye-Heal helped others?
"My poor cat had a huge, red and swollen eye last week - it looked terribly sore and uncomfortable! I decided to try your Eye heal remedy which a friend of mine recommended. The day after I started him on Eye-Heal, the swelling had gone down considerably and five days later his eye was completely back to normal. Since then he has not had an eye infection as every time his eyes look a little dry, red or irritated I just use the Eye-Heal once or twice and that nips it in the bud! Thanks for a great product that works wonders!"
- Jennifer

"My German Shepherd, Gambit, had a recurring problem with his eyes and every few weeks they would become inflamed and weepy. When we got a new puppy I became very concerned that Gambit would transmit whatever infection he was carrying to the little guy’s eyes so I started him on your Eye-Heal regularly and he hasn’t looked back (excuse the pun!). His eyes are now always clear and bright, without the usual gunk that was always seeping out of them. Many thanks from me and my pets!"
- Nicholas

What are the Ingredients?
PetAlive Eye-Heal contains the following 100% natural, herbal ingredients:

Arctium lappa (Burdock) is a cleansing and eliminating herb and is excellent at detoxifying the tissues and removing unwanted substances from the body. Burdock stimulates functioning of the immune system and is very useful in the treatment of dry eyes and eye infections.

Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) is well-known as a topical antiseptic/disinfectant and pain-relieving herb. Several of the compounds in rosemary have also been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects.

Chelidonium majus is used to boost the immune system and combat infections. Also known to sharpen sight, promote healing and act as an analgesic (pain killer).

Filipendula ulmaria (Meadowsweet) has a long history of herbal use and was highly prized by ancient Druids for its medicinal properties. Meadowsweet has astringent, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties and is excellent for soothing and healing infections of the eyes and conjunctiva.

PetAlive Eye-Heal contains no gluten, artificial flavours, colours or preservatives.

How do I use PetAlive Eye-Heal?
PetAlive Eye-Heal comes in a convenient tincture form. Dilute 5 drops in approx. 20ml freshly boiled water and leave to cool. Soak clean cotton swab in solution and gently wipe eyes from inner to outer corner. Use new swab for each eye. Repeat 3 times daily when necessary.

Note: For external use only. Please consult your veterinarian should symptoms persist. May be used together with PetAlive Immunity & Liver Support to boost your pet's immune system and provide further protection against infection.

How long until I see results?
Improvement should be noted within a few days. With regular use over several weeks, infection should clear completely and further infections will be prevented.

How long will a bottle last?
One 50 ml bottle of Eye-Heal will last for 30 - 60 days with daily use, depending on the needs of your pet.

She now employs her love of animals, great and small, to the PetAlive family. She hopes to make pet owners aware of the benefits of natural remedies and support naturally healthy, naturally happy pets.
    Cathy’s Tips:

  • Eye infections often accompany upper respiratory infections and are often present in cases of snuffles in cats. In cases of snotty noses, add PetAlive Respo-K to your treatment programme and boost your beloved pet’s immune system with PetAlive Immunity and Liver Support.
  • Cat fights often result in abscesses following a nasty bite or a deep scratch but can also lead to scratches on the cornea which in turn may develop into ulcers. Eye ulcers can develop very quickly and if they become deep may require surgery. If you suspect your pet’s eye may have been scratched by another cat or maybe a branch or something else sharp and your pet is showing signs of eye discomfort, such as squinting or the presence of a watery discharge it’s advisable to take a trip to your vet.
  • Scratches on the surface of your pet’s eye are not always visible and may need a specific diagnostic test: the fluorescein test. This is a bright orange substance that is placed in your pet’s eye and will fluoresce bright green in areas where the cornea has been damaged. Your pet will be a good candidate for a Halloween party after this diagnostic but this test is invaluable in picking up minor injuries to the cornea which if treated effectively will be unlikely to develop into nasty, corneal ulcers.
  • Remember to check your pet’s eyes when they’ve been out in long grass, grass awns have a nasty habit of wriggling their way into the corners of your pet’s eye and cause much discomfort.
  • Keep a careful eye on your dogs when introducing a new kitten into the house. Many a dog has had to be treated for corneal scratches after a terrified kitten tried to protect itself from a big, wet curious doggy nose!
